SPECTACLE AND LEISURE IN PARIS: DEGAS TO MUCHA examines the intersection of popular entertainment and the visual arts in late 19th-century Paris, one of the most celebrated and critical times in the history of European art and visual culture. The exhibition, in the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis, features a broad selection of prints, posters, photographs, and film — many of which have rarely been on public view. The exhibition will explore how visual artists at once documented, promoted, and participated in the distinctive entertainment cultures that defined the Belle Époque.
